Cultural monuments and museums in Kasperske Hory

In Kasperske Hory are two well-known museums:
Sumava Museum with an exhibition of nature and the settlement of the Bohemian Forest, the history of gold mining, timber and glass and the Motomuzeum – famous Motor Museum associated with exposure to wood toys

But that isn’t all. Other interesting sights in Kasperske Hory include:

  • Brewing Museum
  • Church of St. Nicholas in Kasperske Hory: together with the chapel of St. Anne is in the middle of the cemetery in an environment of picturesque countryside, about 1.5 km west of the center Kašperské Hor. The church has a close connection with mining history and is one of the oldest centers of settlement of the region.
  • Cemetery chapel of St. Anne in Kasperske Hory: perhaps originally a medieval ossuary, used to be also a popular place of pilgrimage. Chapel of the Baroque style and murals decorate the Prague painter Josef Hager in 1757. Baroque altar with statues of St. John of Nepomuk and St. Wenceslas complements mining relief. The cemetery, situated in a beautiful natural landscape and environment, it is interesting also preserved the old cross and gravestones. The site is the venue of numerous folk legends.
  • Stone pillory at the Kasperke Hory: a remarkable monument in Kasperske Hory is a stone pillory of 1630. Originally stood on the square south of the church. After a loss of its functionality has been around since 1800 transferred out of town at the foot of Gallows Hill and adapted to the wayside cross. Pillory is placed at the eastern slope of Gallows Hill.

  • Monuments of mining and adjustments of gold-bearing quartz in Kasperske Hory: forested hillsides in many places around Kaseprske Hory conceal numerous traces of ancient mining activities. There are the remains of tunnels and shafts and also pits, deep ditches and embankments caused by surface mining. To these sites will take you to a nature trail path prospectors.
